Both versions are available at all Kerala centres and cost the same ₹19,000. Your choice depends entirely on your goal:

• IELTS Academic (Pen and Paper) — Required for undergraduate or postgraduate university admission and professional registration (medical, nursing, engineering) in countries like the UK, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.
• IELTS General Training (Pen and Paper) — Required for skilled-worker immigration visas, PR applications, and secondary school placements. If you are applying for a UK Skilled Worker visa or Australian PR, this is typically the module you need.

Both modules share the same Listening and Speaking tests; only Reading and Writing differ in content and task type.

IELTS Pen and Paper Registration Fee in Kerala 2026

What to Expect on IELTS Pen and Paper Test Day

The Listening, Reading, and Writing tests are held on the same day in the following order, typically taking around 2 hours 45 minutes in total. You must use a black ballpoint pen throughout — no pencils, gel pens, or coloured pens are allowed. The Speaking test is scheduled separately, either on the same day or within a few days before or after.
